Wendy's Story

In November 2016, Wendy was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy caused by radiation and chemotherapy — a condition known as cancer therapy-related cardiotoxicity — following treatment for lymphoma of the cervix in 1995.

Within two weeks of her cardiomyopathy diagnosis, Wendy received a lifesaving Left-Ventricle Assist Device (LVAD) as a bridge to transplant, and just nine months later, she underwent a successful heart transplant at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney.

Her transplant has given Wendy precious time with her family and friends, especially her beloved daughters and grandchildren.

Today, she continues to live life to the fullest on her farm, volunteering in her local community and lending a helping hand wherever she can — a true testament to the gift of donation and the life-changing impact of transplantation.

TSANZ is the peak body for transplant clinicians, driving innovation, setting national standards, and striving for better outcomes for every person who needs a life-saving organ transplant.

Your support helps us bring new technologies into everyday care—increasing the availability of organs, shortening waiting times, and extending the life of these precious organs. It also helps us break down barriers for disadvantaged groups, including First Nations peoples, so that everyone has access to life-saving transplant.

There’s so much more we want to do for those living with organ failure—and with your help, we can. Every contribution counts. Thank you.

Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. A receipt will be provided.
