Working Group - Kidney Allocation Working Group
Working Group - Kidney Allocation Working Group
Since the changes to the Algorithm were made in May 2021, a new Kidney Allocation Working Group was formed and chaired by Prof Kate Wyburn, and led by Project Manager Sarah White (2023 - 2025).
The aim of the Project was to deliver the final specifications of a revised Australian Kidney Allocation Algorithm. The revised Kidney Allocation Algorithm incorporates feedback received from stakeholders that was obtained via consultation, including consumer consultation, and is supported by the results of extensive modelling and outcomes simulations. Please see the proposed revised kidney allocation algorithm below.
Proposal for a Revised Australian Deceased Donor Kidney Allocation Algorithm - 2025
Until 2021, the Australian kidney allocation system stood largely unchanged for over 20 years. With the introduction of OrganMatch in 2019, the Transplantation Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ), with support from the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority (OTA), convened the Renal Allocation Working Group (RAWG) to develop and model potential changes to the Australian Kidney allocation algorithm. Extensive work and consultation were undertaken to design and simulate the proposed changes which were implemented on the 4th May 2021. The new algorithm was termed KAv2 (Kidney Allocation version 2).
