Meetings

The TSANZ Scientific Program and Education Committee (SPEC) in conjunction with the TSANZ Board are preparing an exciting program for the 2025 TSANZ Annual Scientific and Associated Pre-Meetings

Annual Scientific Meeting - Sunday 22 to Tuesday 24 June

Convenors - A/Professor Darren Lee and Dr Jeanette Villanueva

Welcome from the Convenors

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the TSANZ Scientific Program and Education Committee (SPEC) and Council, we are incredibly excited to invite you all to the TSANZ 43rd Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) to be held in Canberra, 22nd June – 24th June 2025. It is hard to believe that 10 years have passed since the meeting was held in Canberra. I’m sure we all have very fond memories of those lovely crisp morning walks through the ANU Campus, conference dinners at the various conference dinner locations and of course the chilly fun run. Since then, TSANZ has grown not only in attendees but also in the conference themes offered. To reflect the growth of the Society, the 2025 ASM will be held at the National Convention Centre in the heart of Canberra.

In 2025, we are honoured to host international speakers Professor Megan Sykes (Columbia University), Professor Peter Nickerson (University of Manitoba), Professor Cameron Wolfe (Duke University) and Professor Roslyn B. Mannon (University of Nebraska).

The TSANZ Scientific Program and Education Committee (SPEC) and the Board have taken members’ feedback on board and are dedicated to providing an inspirational program both before and during the ASM including:

• The inaugural Transplant Infectious Diseases Day (Friday 20 June)

• Frontiers and Challenges in Transplantation Course (Saturday 21 June)

• Solid Organ Transplant Symposium - Liver (Saturday 21 June and Sunday 22 June)

• Solid Organ Transplant Symposium – Kidney/Pancreas-Islet (Sunday 22 June)

• Solid Organ Transplant Symposium – Cardiothoracic (Sunday 22 June)

As planning continues, we look forward to keeping you updated with the latest on our next ASM.

We look forward to seeing you all in Canberra where we can reminisce and create new memories.

Best wishes,

A/Prof Darren Lee & Dr Jeanette Villanueva

Associated Pre-Meetings

The Transplant Infectious Diseases Day – Friday 20 June

In partnership with the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID)

Convenors - Dr Tina Marinelli, Dr Olivia Smibert and Dr Matthew Roberts

We are delighted to announce the inaugural Transplant Infectious Diseases (TID) day, a face-to-face meeting which will precede the TSANZ ASM and provide excellent education and networking opportunities. The TID day will focus on the pre- and early post-transplant and infectious disease care, including vaccination, donor-transmitted infections, resistant viral and multidrug resistant infections and the management of immunosuppression during active infections. With local and international speakers including Professor Cameron R. Wolfe from Duke University.

Given the ongoing importance of infectious disease in solid organ transplantation, the TSANZ/ASID TID day will bring together transplantation professionals and infectious disease specialists to highlight the importance and challenges of the identification and management of infections in solid organ transplantation.

Frontiers and Challenges in Transplantation Update Course – Saturday 21 June

Convenors - Dr Griffith Perkins; Dr Sakhee Kotecha

An engaging and wide-ranging update course for all transplant clinicians and trainees, scientists and researchers. Featuring basic science and cutting-edge advances in transplant immunology through to clinical conundrums, including contemporary approaches to challenges in transplant patient management, immunosuppression and infectious sequalae. This replaces the previous post-graduate and masterclass sessions and runs from 8am to 5pm.

Solid Organ Transplant Symposium – Liver: Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June

Convenors - Dr Caroline Tallis; Dr Katherine Stuart

The Liver Transplant Symposium has a longstanding history within the liver transplant community of Australia and New Zealand, running for over 20 years. It is the only annual event in Australia that brings together leading liver transplant surgeons, hepatologists, anaesthetists, nurse coordinators, and allied support teams. This symposium offers a rare and valuable opportunity for your team to engage with this expert group. The program is held over 2 days, commencing 11 am on Saturday, to 2:30 pm on Sunday.

Solid Organ Transplant Symposium - Kidney and Pancreas-Islet: Sunday 22 June

Convenors - Mr Paul Robertson; Dr Reshma Shettigar; Professor Henry Pleass and Pat Siciliano

Led jointly by the TSANZ Renal Transplant Advisory Committee and the Pancreas and Islet Advisory Committee, these sessions will provide an opportunity for in depth updates, discussion and debate on evolving practice. To be held from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm.

Solid Organ Transplant Symposium - Cardiothoracic: Sunday 22 June

Convenors: Dr Rebecca Pearson; Professor Ulrich Stock

Led jointly by the TSANZ Cardiac and Lung Advisory Committees, this program will consist of both combined and concurrent sessions, covering evolving clinical practice challenges, and promoting discussion and debate. To be held from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm.

In addition, there will be opportunities for networking and socialising with colleagues, with a focus on promoting the development of young transplant clinicians, scientists, and researchers.
